Jordan Henderson, a midfielder for Al Ettifaq, is reportedly a January transfer target for Ajax.

During the summer, Henderson made the contentious decision to leave Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League, ending his legendary career with the club.

The England international, who had previously spoken publicly about his support for the LGBT community, stated at the time that he wanted to help ‘grow the game’ in the Middle East.

By signing a three-year contract with Al Ettifaq, the 33-year-old appeared to commit the next phase of his career to competing in that part of the world, and he has since made 19 appearances across all competitions.

However, at a time when Steven Gerrard is reportedly under pressure to keep his job as manager, reports have surfaced that Henderson is dissatisfied and wants to return to Europe.

If a transfer becomes a possibility, Henderson will not be short of offers in the Premier League, with Chelsea among the teams keeping an eye on the situation.

Meanwhile, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who already have Englishman Harry Kane and could add Eric Dier in the future, are said to be interested.

Ajax are the latest club to express an interest in negotiating terms with Henderson and his club, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano claims that Al Ettifaq has yet to approve Henderson’s departure, presumably because he is only a sixth of the way through his contract.

Nonetheless, Ajax appear to be interested in adding some much-needed experience to their ranks following a disappointing first half of the season.

Given their dreadful start, the fact that they are still in fifth place in the Eredivisie and have earned a place in the Europa Conference League in February will be viewed positively.

Ajax have cash to spend after high-profile sales in previous transfer windows, and Al Ettifaq may look to recoup the £12 million they paid Liverpool in July.

As things stand, no quick decision is expected, with Henderson expected to wait for proposals, while Gerrard’s decision to stay or leave Al Ettifaq in the short term may also have an impact.
