Jose Mourinho to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid?

The Portuguese arrived to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2010 after winning the Champions League with Inter Milan, and the now 60-year-old spent three years in Madrid.

Mourinho led Los Blancos to a record-breaking number of points ahead of fierce rivals Barcelona in 2011-12, while also winning the Copa del Rey in his first season in command.

The two-time Champions League winner left Real Madrid in disgrace in June 2013 in order to return to the Premier League with Chelsea, having won 128 of his 178 matches as manager.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Mourinho may return to the Bernabeu in the near future, as the Spanish giants are looking for a new head coach.

With current manager Ancelotti’s contract ending at the end of the 2023-24 season, Real are looking into other options should the Italian go.

According to the source, Ancelotti would extend his stay in Madrid if he was handed a contract extension, although it is unclear whether the 13-time European winners will fight for such an arrangement.

The former Everton manager has been heavily connected with the job of Brazil national team manager in 2024, but he has yet to pledge his future to the South American powerhouses.

Jose Mourinho to return to Madrid?

Mourinho is in Real Madrid’s shortlist of managers for the role of manager if Ancelotti leaves in the summer.

The 60-year-old is now in charge of Serie A team Roma, but his contract at Stadio Olimpico expires at the conclusion of this season, thus he is unlikely to lead the club into the 2024-25 season.

Zinedine Zidane and Xabi Alonso, both former Real Madrid players, are likely to be contenders. Xavi Alonso is impressing during his first stint as a first-team coach at Bayer Leverkusen.

Alonso, who leads the German Bundesliga following an unblemished start to the season, will aim to help Leverkusen win their first Bundesliga title.

Mourinho’s Roma have had a difficult start to the season, currently sitting in 10th place in Serie A, 10 points behind first-placed AC Milan.

Despite losing Karim Benzema to the riches of the Saudi Pro League in the summer, Real Madrid and Ancelotti have started the season strongly, collecting 24 points from a possible 27 in La Liga.
