Andy Robertson | Defender’s injury will put Liverpool’s contract status to the test after Jürgen Klopp requested an extension.

Andy Robertson to undergo surgery

Andy Robertson was noticeably absent from the Liverpool squad’s return to training on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton. During the international break, the left-back injured his shoulder while playing for Scotland in a Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain, and the prognosis is yet unknown.

James Pearce of The Athletic reports that Robertson might return in four weeks, if no surgery is necessary. However, a rapid return would be risky for the defender.

If he does require surgery, his absence might last between 10 weeks and three months. Jürgen Klopp’s pre-Everton press conference will provide an update shortly.

Regardless of how long it lasts, Klopp is likely to rely on Kostas Tsimikas, with occasional assistance from powerful center-half Joe Gomez and youngsters like Caleb Scanlon and Luke Chambers (depending on the length of the latter’s own ailment).

Tsimikas may not be starting every game. However, he is about to play a significant role in the course of Liverpool’s season.

Andy Robertson getting ready for Premier League?

Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend with a Merseyside rivalry against Everton at Anfield.

But Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has had an expensive international break. Andy Robertson, who suffered a catastrophic shoulder injury while playing for Scotland, will almost probably miss Saturday’s important game.

As if that wasn’t awful enough, it has now been revealed that there is anxiety within the Liverpool camp that the left-back may need surgery. But it isn’t the only injury issue Klopp must deal with.
