Kieran Tierney is nearing a loan move to Real Sociedad, with Arsenal hoping the agreement includes an obligation to buy.
Real Sociedad and Arsenal have apparently agreed on a loan deal for Kieran Tierney.
The defender has spent the last four seasons at the Emirates Stadium, appearing in 124 games across all competitions.
Tierney’s influence decreased as his time in North London has progressed, owing to the entrance of Oleksandr Zinchenko in 2022.
Despite having 27 Premier League appearances last season, the Scotland international only accumulated 776 minutes as he spent the most of his time on the bench.
As a result, the 26-year-old has been heavily connected with a move away from Arsenal this summer, with Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Celtic all being mentioned at some point.
With Jurrien Timber’s injury, it seemed increasingly likely that Mikel Arteta would keep Tierney, his adaptability a benefit to his squad at a time when the Gunners are back in the Champions League.
Sociedad is another club keeping eye on Tierney’s future as they prepare for their own comeback to Europe’s top flight.
Kieran Tierney set to leave Gunners
According to Fabrizio Romano, the La Liga club and Arsenal have achieved a verbal agreement on a loan deal.
Sociedad will pay Tierney’s salaries in full, according to Romano. However, Arsenal has demanded that no buy option is included in the contract.
Tierney has agreed to transfer to the Reale Arena. Medical will be conducted before the transfer is official in the coming days.
Sociedad have had a mixed start to the season, drawing with Girona and Celta Vigo to sit in 13th place.
The club’s head coach, Imanol Alguacil, has had a quiet summer transfer window, signing only Rennes defender Hamari Traore and RB Leipzig attacker Andre Silva.
Tierney will compete for the left-back position with long-serving Aihen Munoz. Munoz is the with the 26-year-old defender who has already provided an assist in his two starts in 2023-24.
