Shreyas Iyer, who succeeded Gautam Gambhir (2012 and 2014), became just the second captain of KKR to win an IPL trophy. Gambhir was a proud coach on Sunday as he watched from the sideline.

In fact, Iyer is only the sixth Indian skipper to lead his team to an IPL final victory. He is currently the 6th captain (after MS Dhoni, Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya).

KKR cemented their reputation as one of the most successful IPL teams. The Knight Riders now have three titles, trailing only CSK and Mumbai, who each have five.

Pat Cummins, on the other hand, experienced his first loss in a major competition final in more than a year, having led Australia to the World Test Championship and World Cup finals.

In one of the most one-sided finals in IPL history, Kolkata extended their lead over SunRisers, defeating the Pat Cummins-led team for the third time in the 2024 season. The Knight Riders put on an all-around performance, while SRH imploded at the worst time.

Mitchell Starc demonstrated why he is the man for the big occasion as he guided KKR to a wipe of SRH’s top order. On the other hand. Andre Russell, in his maiden final for KKR, topped the bowling charts with three wickets.
