Luka Vuskovic | Spurs agree to sign the Defender

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of 16-year-old Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split in 2025.

When he turns 18 in two years, the 2007-born centre-back will officially join Ange Postecoglou’s team. He has committed to a long-term contract with the club until the summer of 2030.

Vuskovic, a product of the Hajduk Split academy, developed a name as a goalscoring centre-back at Under-19 during the 2022-23 season, scoring six goals in 14 matches in the Prva HNL – Juniori tier.

The 6ft 4in centre-back also piqued the interest of prominent European teams with a succession of outstanding performances in the 2022-23 UEFA Youth League, appearing six times and scoring two goals en route to the final.

Vuskovic was suspended for the wins against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, but he returned to the backline for a 3-1 semi-final triumph over AC Milan before playing the full 90 minutes in the final loss to AZ Alkmaar.

Luka Vuskovic | Career Stats

While still playing for Hajduk Split at the youth level, Vuskovic was deemed ready for his first-team debut on February 26 – only two days after his 16th birthday – starting in a 4-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

During the 2022-23 season, Vuskovic made 11 first-team appearances, scoring one goal against NK Osijek in a Croatian Cup quarter-final encounter to become the club’s youngest-ever senior scorer.

Hajduk Split would go on to win the Croatian Cup last season, Vuskovic’s first major trophy. He he only came off the bench for the final minute of his team’s 2-0 win over Sibenik.

Vuskovic’s progress was also impeded by a muscular injury last season. He has yet to make a single game for Hajduk Split this season. He missed each of their previous six matches after two appearances as an unused substitute.

Despite this, the 16-year-old’s first-team debut sparked the curiosity of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea. However, Spurs moved quickly to sign a contract with Hajduk Split.

The teenager has yet to earn his first senior cap for Croatia. He has one goal in five Under-17s games, netting against Sweden in a Euros qualifier last October.

Vuskovic becomes the club’s second teenage centre-back signing this summer, following in the footsteps of Ashley Phillips, who joined from Blackburn Rovers.
