Manchester City put the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, fending off a spirited charge from Nottingham Forest after Mikel Arteta’s side held their nerve to defeat Tottenham.

A compelling three-way title race has devolved into a battle between Pep Guardiola’s City and Arteta’s Gunners, who are keen to make apologies for last season’s late collapse.

Arsenal has 80 points, one more than City, with only three games remaining. However, the champions have a game in hand are heavy favorites to win their fourth title in a row.

The Gunners raced to a 3-0 lead at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the early kickoff on Sunday, overcoming a late scare to win 3-2 and momentarily move four points ahead at the top of the league.

Manchester City keep chasing Arsenal for the Title Race

Though not at its best, City overcame the struggling Forest thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol and ErlingHaaland.

A little over thirty minutes in, Croatian defender Gvardiol opened the score by heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s corner. Two minutes later, in the 71st minute, Haaland scored calmly after receiving another assist from the great De Bruyne.

Forest, who are only one point above the relegation zone with three games remaining, will be disappointed by a number of missed opportunities, including two obvious mistakes from forward Chris Wood.

Guardiola was relieved when his squad triumphed. However, they advised complacency in the final weeks of the season as they chase a domestic title double.

When asked about City’s chances of winning the League, Guardiola replied, “It’s far away.

Ask me this question when we’re at the top of the league with one game remaining.

But with four games left, it’s as if we’re climbing a huge mountain. It is in our hands…

We draw a game, we will not win the Premier League.”

He believes his club cannot afford to lose any points as it seeks an unprecedented fourth consecutive English top-flight championship.

“We prefer they (Arsenal) lose; we can’t control what they do, and they get a good result,” remarked the City manager, whose squad is now unbeaten in 31 matches across all competitions.

“Four games left, I don’t think we can lose any points and we know exactly what we have to do.”
