Marseille has fired Gattuso as the club’s coach.
The Italian and his backroom team were fired by the club’s board, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He goes after a 1-0 loss to 10-man Brest in Ligue 1.
Marseille is now tenth in the league, having won only seven of their 22 matches.
Gattuso’s departure comes after he effectively ended any prospects of European qualifying following the defeat to Brest.
Following the contest, he said, “We’ve hit rock bottom.”
“When you hit rock bottom, you must accept responsibility. It is my obligation. There is nothing more to say.
“The table?” The truth is, we’ll have to start looking behind us. We can no longer speak of Europe. We only need to collect the necessary points to remain calm in the standings.”

Gattuso had only been hired by the French giants in September on a contract that ran until the end of the season.
However, he won only nine of his 24 matches in all tournaments.
The team has not won a match since January 7, when they defeated fifth-tier Thionville Lusitanos in the French Cup.
Marseille has yet to win three points in any of its seven Ligue 1 games since then.
And yesterday’s unexpected 1-0 defeat to Brest was the final straw for the club’s executives, who had crisis meetings this morning about the manager’s future.
