Mohamed Salah of Liverpool set a new Premier League record in Monday’s 6-1 thrashing of Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Reds arrived in Yorkshire having gone five games without a win, but they quickly got back on track.

Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo opened the scoring before Salah latched onto Diogo Jota’s through ball and fired his first-time effort past Illan Meslier at the near post. [Liverpool paid £35 million to sign Dutch young forward Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.]

Salah now has the most left-footed goals in Premier League history as a result of the clinical strike. [Jota made an assist to the Egyptian. Salah scored the 2nd goal for the Reds to make a good lead before half-time.]

Salah’s 39th-minute strike was his 106th Premier League goal with his left foot. That goal broke the record previously held by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler. Robert Fowler is a former English football player who currently manages East Bengal in the Indian Super League.

Liverpool then conceded early in the second half at Elland Road, with Leeds responding through Luis Sinisterra.

However, Jota quickly restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead, scoring his first goal for the club since April 2022.

Mohamed Salah scored his second goal of the evening with another left-footed strike shortly after the hour mark, before Jota added another to his tally.

Darwin Nunez scored in the 90th minute to add to Leeds’ misery, capping off a memorable evening for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The commanding victory gives Liverpool 47 points after 30 league games, keeping them in contention for a place in Europe.

The Reds are currently six points behind Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are in fifth place and have played one game more than the Reds.

With nine points separating them from the Champions League places, Liverpool may have to settle for the Europa League or Europa Conference League.

The Merseyside club will be back in action on Saturday, hosting relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
