Mumbai Indians have signed Luke Wood, an English left-arm fast bowler, to replace injured Jason Behrendorff in the IPL 2024.

The five-time champion Mumbai Indians bought Wood for INR 50 lakh.

Wood has 147 wickets from 140 Twenty20 outings, including five for England. While he has played in various T20 tournaments, including the BBL, PSL, and BPL, this will be his first IPL appearance aside from The Hundred.

Behrendorff was ruled out of the IPL after breaking his leg in a bizarre accident during training in Perth last Thursday, just before departing for India.

The setback to Behrendorff, who took 14 wickets in 12 games last season, exacerbates Mumbai’s fast-bowling issues. Dilshan Madushanka, a Sri Lankan left-arm seamer, suffered an injury during the second one-day international against Bangladesh, ruling him out of the IPL 2024.

South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee is also recovering from a pelvic irritation and may be unavailable for Mumbai’s opening three games.

Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Madhwal, Nuwan Thushara, and Arjun Tendulkar are the other fast bowlers on Mumbai’s list, and their new captain, Hardik Pandya, has confirmed his fitness to bowl in the competition. They also have Romario Shepherd, a seam-bowling all-rounder.

Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai’s star batter who is recovering from two surgeries, is also doubtful for the opener against Gujarat Titans.
