Nick Pope wins Castrol Save of the Month for January. He claims the award after making a fantastic reaction save in Newcastle United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.
The English goalkeeper has been in outstanding form this season. He has conceded only 11 goals in the Premier League as the Magpies have risen to third place.
Pope’s performances in cup competitions have been equally impressive. That helped his side reach the Carabao Cup final – the club’s first cup final of the twenty-first century.
Pope’s efforts earned him the first goalkeeper to win the Castrol Save of the Month award twice. Thanks to his fantastic save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta what appeared to be a certain goal.
With the score at 0-0, Mateta turned inside the penalty area. And unleashed a vicious shot on goal, only for Pope to reach up and tip it over the crossbar.
Lukasz Fabianski, Emiliano Martinez, Aaron Ramsdale, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and David De Gea are also in the nominated list for the Castrol Save of the Month award in January.
Nick Pope won the award for the first time in August. Also, thanks to a brilliant save in a 0-0 draw with Brighton at St. James’ Park.
Pope, who also won the Castrol Save of the Month award in August, came out on top of a shortlist that included seven other sensational saves by goalkeepers throughout the month.
