Olympique Marseille has given Jean-Louis Gasset a short-term deal to be their new head coach, according to FootMercato.

Olympique Marseille appoints Jean-Louis Gasset as new Manager

The 70-year-old Frenchman replaces Gennaro Gattuso, who was fired following Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Brest.

Gasset is a very accomplished coach who has previously led Montpellier, Saint-Etienne, and Bordeaux.

He is regarded for getting the most out of his players, and his teams are often well-organized and disciplined.

Gasset will be charged with improving Marseille’s fortunes.

The squad is presently ranked seventh in Ligue 1 and has not won a title since 2012.

Gasset has signed a deal through the conclusion of the season.

If he is successful, he may be offered a longer contract during the summer.

Olympique Marseille has replaced Gattuso with Jean-Louis in the job

According to Fabrizio Romano, struggling French giants Marseille have appointed Jean-Louis Gasset as head coach, replacing Gennaro Gattuso. The squad has not won a Ligue 1 game since mid-December, going two months without a league victory. Since then, Marseille has only won once more, against lower-division Thionville in a cup match, and has gone winless in seven games across all competitions.

Gattuso, who was named in late September 2023, guided the squad in 24 competitive matches, winning nine, drawing eight, and losing seven. His successor, 70-year-old Jean-Louis Gasset, was previously in charge of Cote d’Ivoire, the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champion. Interestingly, he was fired as manager during the group stage, yet the squad went on to win the tournament without him.

Jean-Louis Gasset will take charge of Marseille as interim manager until the conclusion of the season. Gasset’s most recent club role was with Bordeaux for one season in 2020/21, when he led the team to 12th place.
