Paolo Maldini says AC Milan tried to sign Messi

According to Paolo Maldini, AC Milan made desperate attempts to sign Argentina and Inter Miami hero Lionel Messi. In the summer of 2021, the Argentine maestro was unsure of his future. As a result, AC Milan’s Sporting Director, Paolo Maldini, was keen to bring the legendary No 10 to Italy.

Lionel Messi was a target for AC Milan.

Maldini revealed Milan’s bold attempts to sign Lionel Messi. This happened while he was on the PoretCast podcast. Goal also reported that the former player and technical director had been working on this for 10 days.

The attempt to sign the Argentine was most likely made during the crucial summer of 2021. When Barcelona’s financial difficulties prevented him from renewing his contract, the forward chose Paris Saint-Germain.

Paolo Maldini stated about the G.O.A.T

‘We tried to sign Leo Messi,’ said Paolo Maldini. I desired him, and we requested him, but after 10 days we realized it was simply impossible. It’s too late now, but a player like Messi is a sight to behold for anyone. I was scared when I read that he might even go to Inter!’

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is set to buy a quarter of Manchester United, has been linked with a move for Maldini. This is part of a reorganization of the club and the sporting hierarchy at Old Trafford.

Messi will take a well-deserved break after leading Argentina to another victory over Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers before returning to work at Inter Miami in February 2024.
