Xabi Alonso to take over as Bayern Munich manager?

According to sources, the current Bayer Leverkusen coach will take over as coach of the Munich-based club in the 2024-25 season. Alonso previously played for Bayern Munich from 2014 to 2017, winning the German championship three times and the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup once each.

There was also word that Alonso and Bayer Leverkusen had reached a verbal agreement regarding the Spaniard’s departure if he received a bid from Real Madrid, Liverpool, or Bayern Munich.

Alonso was named head coach of the German club Bayer 04 in October 2022, signing a two-year contract. Bayer was 17th in the Bundesliga standings at the time, with only one win in the first eight games. However, under the direction of the Spanish coach, the team improved its performance and finished sixth in the season. Furthermore, Alonso’s team advanced to the Europa League semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by AS Roma over two legs.

Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen currently lead the German Bundesliga.

Alonso’s team is two points ahead of the defending champion, and their direct match ended in a 2-2 draw.
