Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly decided against renewing his contract following Lionel Messi’s uninvited trip to Saudi Arabia.

Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) suspended Lionel Messi on May 3, 2023. After he traveled to Saudi Arabia without permission from the club, the club suspended him. The source did not specify the length of the suspension. Messi has not commented on the suspension on his social media accounts, and PSG has not confirmed or denied it.

Messi, who switched from Barcelona to PSG two years ago, has a business deal with Saudi Arabia to promote travel there. The suspension occurs at a critical juncture because PSG wanted to keep Messi on after this season. The 35-year-old Argentine forward will not be get his salary during his suspension. He won’t get permission to train or compete with the team.

According to the unnamed source, Messi’s request to travel had been turned down by PSG. Following PSG’s unexpected 3-1 loss to Lorient on May 1, 2023, Messi will now miss the team’s next two games due to the suspension. Messi will miss the pivotal match against Marseille with five games remaining in the season if the suspension is for two weeks.

Messi’s future has been a subject of discussion, particularly following reports that contract negotiations with PSG had fallen through. A few PSG supporters have even booed Messi due to the team’s erratic season. Messi leads the French league with 15 assists and 15 goals scored in the league.

In spite of Christophe Galtier, the PSG coach, having promised his players two days off, the team trained on Monday. The incident increases the pressure already being placed on the French club, which is hoping to win its first-ever Champions League championship with Messi at the helm.

Paris Saint-Germain not willing Messi to stay in the clun? What comes next for Messi?

If manager Christophe Galtier chooses him, the Argentine’s three remaining games for PSG after his suspension will be against Auxerre, Strasbourg, and Clermont, before he ends a spell in France in which he has 31 goals and 34 assists in 71 appearances.
