The Sixers finished third in the Eastern Conference entering the 2023 playoffs, three games behind the second-seeded Celtics at the end of the regular season.
The 76ers won a first-round series against the Brooklyn Nets. Atlanta Hawks, who came in eighth but won their opening match in the NBA Play-In Tournament against the Miami Heat to secure a spot as the seventh seed, were given a first-round matchup against the Celtics.
The Hawks lost their next game despite Dejounte Murray’s return from a one-game suspension and moving the series back to Atlanta. The Hawks are out from the 2023 NBA Playoffs after a 128-120 loss at home.
Meanwhile, the Celtics will face the Sixers, who swept the Brooklyn Nets with a 4-0 victory. With the Celtics and Sixers set to face off in the first round, their seven-game series will begin on Monday, May 1.
