Brighton & Hove FC have reached an agreement in principle to sign Watford striker Joao Pedro in a club-record fee.

Joao Pedro, a Watford striker, is set to join Brighton in a club-record deal this summer; Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is looking to bolster his striking options to supplement Evan Ferguson, Danny Welbeck, and Deniz Undav.

The transfer for the 21-year-old Brazilian forward will be complete when the window reopens in the summer.

It may be a club-record fee for Brighton, surpassing the £20 million paid for defender Adam Webster by Bristol City in August 2019.

Pedro joined the Hornets in January 2020 and appears to be on his way out after two and a half seasons.

He is expected to formally close the deal in June, when the transfer window opens.

Before Watford’s relegation, the Brazilian scored three times in 31 Premier League games last season.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is looking to bolster his attacking options to supplement Evan Ferguson, Danny Welbeck, and Deniz Undav.

Joao Pedro; Brighton & Hove Albion new star

Joao Pedro was born in Ribeiro Preto to Flavia Junqueira and José Joo de Jesus, better known as Chico, a Botafogo professional footballer. For being an accessory to murder, Chico got a sixteen-year prison term in 2002, of which he served eight.

Joo Pedro joined the Fluminense youth system, and his mother relocated to Rio de Janeiro with him. As he progressed through the club’s academy, he transitioned from defensive midfielder to attacking midfielder, then striker. Premier League club Watford agreed to sign Joao Pedro on a five-year contract on October 19, 2018, before he had even made his senior debut.
