Raphael Varane set to leave Manchester United

Raphael Varane, an experienced center-back, is expected to leave Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

Raphael Varane set to leave Manchester United

The former France international joined United from Real Madrid in 2021, and he has appeared on 75 occasions for the Red Devils, scoring twice and assisting once.

Varane is under contract with the 20-time English champions until June 2025, but his future has recently been questioned.

Several Saudi Arabian clubs are said to be interested in signing the Frenchman in January, and there has also been talk of a mid-season switch to Bayern Munich.

The defender will not be allowed to leave Erik ten Hag’s side during the winter transfer window, but he is expected to leave at the end of the 2023-24 season, according to The Sun.

Varane has made only 12 appearances for Manchester United this season, and he has not started a Premier League match since the defeat to Crystal Palace at the end of September.

The Frenchman has recently been overlooked for starts, with Jonny Evans preferring to partner Harry Maguire in the middle of the defense, and he has appeared as a late substitute in the team’s last two Premier League games against Fulham and Luton Town.

Before the international break, Maguire was joined in the middle by Victor Lindelof, and the pair could continue as the center-back partnership against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

The Saudi Pro League is reportedly interested in Varane, but a move to Italy is also considered a viable option for the experienced defender.

Man United are reportedly looking for around £17 million for Varane, who, along with Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, is one of the highest earners at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag recently stated that Varane’s absence from the team is due to form rather than a disagreement between the two players, telling reporters, “It is about tactical reasons why I chose these partnerships.” I believe Harry and Jonny performed admirably.

“As I mentioned last year, Harry didn’t play much, so I was very pleased with Rapha’s performances.” “I’ve always been pleased with his performance.”

Varane helped Manchester United win the EFL Cup last season. This could be his final chance to win more silverware at the club before leaving next year.

Maguire is expected to stay at Old Trafford due to his improved form, and Lisandro Martinez is expected to return from a foot injury before the end of the season, but Evans and Lindelof are only under contract with the 20-time English champions until next June.
