Raul Albiol stays at Villarreal after signing a new contract for another year.
Villarreal have confirmed that veteran defender Raul Albiol will return to the club for the 2019-20 season.
The 37-year-old has renewed his contract with the Yellow Submarine for another season, extending his stay at the club into a fourth year and ensuring his availability until the age of 38.
Villarreal have confirmed that Raul Abiol’s contract has been extended for another year.
Albiol joined the club from Napoli in 2019 and has made 155 appearances. Over 700 are now in his catalogue, and Albiol remains vital for Villarreal. He has made 27 appearances this season, starting 24 of them, but his impact in cup competitions has been limited.
Minor injuries have hampered him a little more this season, but he remains first choice in the Villarreal defense alongside Pau Torres. With the latter potentially leaving the club this summer, Albiol will provide continuity for the club. Even if he does not start, Albiol’s leadership is critical to the club’s most successful team in its history.
