Rayo Vallecano has appointed Íñigo Pérez as new head coach replacing Francisco.
Rayo Vallecano has moved quickly to replace outgoing manager Francisco, who was fired on Tuesday night after only one win in 16 games. They already have a new coach, Inigo Perez.
Francisco was fired after only one win in 16 games, leaving the Vallecanos in 14th place, seven points above relegation.
Perez, who is only 36 years old, retired from a career that included stops at Athletic Club, Huesca, Real Mallorca, Numancia, and Osasuna just over 18 months ago.
This summer, after taking over as assistant manager for the latter last season, he was set to join Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth.. However, new Brexit restrictions prevented him from obtaining a work permit.
First, there was the rejection of Perez’s application. Thus he will begin his career in senior management, despite Rayo’s interest in hiring him this summer, according to Diario AS. He has a contract until the end of the season, with the option for an additional year.
Rayo fans will be hoping he can recreate some of Iraola’s incisive counter-attacking and get goals from a frontline that includes Radamel Falcao, Sergio Camello, and Raul de Tomas. Only Cadiz has scored fewer than 21 goals this year, which has been a big issue in recent months.
