RCB women win first Women's Premier League 2024 title

The Royal Challengers Bangalore won the Women’s Premier League 2024 title with an eight-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals in the final on Sunday, March 18. This is RCB’s inaugural T20 title in both the WPL and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The RCB men’s team also took to social media following their women’s team’s first WPL title. Virat Kohli congratulated the team via video call. In an Instagram story, he also praised RCB’s ‘Superwomen’.

Legendary West Indies batsman Chris Gayle, who played for RCB from 2011 to 2017, also tweeted, “RCB-W champions of WPL. Congratulations on an excellent season. Finally, Ee Sala Cup Namdu. #WPLFinal.”

Along with Indian cricket players, social media users on X shared videos and messages about RCB’s historic victory, with some claiming that the team had finally won the title and others describing it as an emotional time for RCB.

In the chase for 114, RCB put on a 49-run opening stand, led by Sophie Devine (32 in 27 balls, five fours, and a six). However, RCB was pressured by Delhi bowlers in the middle overs, and skipper Smriti Mandhana (31 in 39 balls, three fours) left at a critical moment, leaving RCB at 82/2 after 15 overs.

That’s all, people; this is for the fans. Skipper Smriti Mandhana also stated that a bad performance in the initial season taught her and the squad valuable lessons, and she appreciated the team’s management and fans for their continued support.
