Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves PSV as Head Coach

Ruud van Nistelrooy announced to PSV Eindhoven that he will step down as head coach with immediate effect.

PSV still has one Eredivisie game remaining against AZ Alkmaar and needs a point to seal second place.

However, the club revealed in a statement: “After several discussions about internal affairs in recent weeks, a meeting between the Board of Directors and Van Nistelrooy took place on Tuesday evening.”

“It was decided to keep the focus on the match against AZ next Sunday and to continue talking after the season.”
(However,) Van Nistelrooy said this morning that he did not believe the club had the backing to continue.

“He immediately explained this to the players and staff. This Sunday, at the request of the management, Fred Rutten will temporarily take over his role as head coach.

“PSV regrets the decision of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and is grateful to him for winning the Johan Cruyff Shield. Along with that, the KNVB Cup this season, and hopes to close the football year with second place.”
