Salernitana plans to sign Jerome Boateng, a former Bayern Munich and Lyon defender.

Salernitana to sign Jerome Boateng

Boateng has been a free agent since leaving Lyon in the summer of 2023 following a two-year stint with the French club. Salernitana has been circling the German for several days now, and it appears that the move will go through.

Il Mattino reports that Boateng will join Salernitana this month, as the transfer deadline approaches. The defender, along with his agent, met with the club’s sporting director Walter Sabatini at his home, where the parties agreed on the final details of the contract, which will pay him half a million until the end of the season.

He is now awaiting the green light to complete the move, and he will arrive in Salerno later today. His medical will take place tomorrow, but Salernitana plans to file his contract on February 2nd.

The club believes Boateng has the profile they need to avoid relegation, as the defender reunites with former Bayern Munich teammate Franck Ribery.

Salernitana are very close to signing the German Centre-Back

Multiple Italian reports confirm that Salernitana reached an agreement with Jerome Boateng today that will last until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old defender is a free agent, having left Olympique Lyonnais in July 2023.

The Germany legend, his agent, and Salernitana director of sport Walter Sabatini met in person this afternoon. He was linked to several clubs, including Como under coach Cesc Fabregas. However, Salernitana showed the greatest interest.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, and Tuttomercatoweb, they have agreed to stay until the end of the season.

Rumor has it that the details include a one-year extension option contingent upon Serie A safety being under promises.

The salary should be around €600,000 with bonuses for avoiding relegation.

In addition, Boateng travels to Salernitana to catch up with former Bayern Munich teammate Franck Ribery. Ribery joined Salernitana in September 2021 as a player and stayed on as an employee until retiring in October 2022.
