Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to have stated that Scott McTominay will not be leaving the club during the January transfer window.
Over the summer, the Scotland international was extensively linked with a move away from the Red Devils, with Newcastle United and West Ham United both reportedly interested in his services.

McTominay was also connected with Fulham in the closing weeks of the transfer window, as the Cottagers sought a replacement for Joao Palhinha, whose late move to Bayern Munich fell through.

The 26-year-old is further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, but he demonstrated his worth with a brace off the bench against Brentford before the international break.

Man United were on the verge of a seventh defeat of the season until McTominay scored twice in second-half stoppage time to help his club win 2-1 over the Bees.

The Daily Star reports that there will be renewed interest in the Scot during the January transfer window, but he will not leave Old Trafford in the middle of the season.

Scott McTominay to stay with Red Devils?

According to the article, Ten Hag regards the midfielder as ‘too vital’ given the club’s injury difficulties during the 2023-24 season.

McTominay apparently ‘impressed in training’ following a difficult start to the season, and he remains dedicated to the 20-time English champions despite struggling to secure starts this term.

This season, the midfielder has only started two Premier League games, and he was an unused replacement in the team’s most recent Champions League match against Galatasaray.

McTominay is now on international duty with Scotland, and he appeared to have put his country ahead against Spain on Thursday evening with a thunderous free kick.

However, the midfielder’s shot in the Euro 2024 qualifier was ruled out for offside, leaving Steve Clarke’s side without a place at the European Championship next summer.

McTominay has appeared on 215 occasions for Manchester United in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and providing five assists.

The Red Devils return to play against Sheffield United next weekend, and the club is concerned about Casemiro’s fitness following a knock received while on international duty with Brazil.

Casemiro’s injury could open the way for McTominay to start against Sheffield United, however Christian Eriksen is also a possibility.
