AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli expressed a desire to continue working with the “very important” player after this season. He expressed words regarding Brahim Diaz’s long-term future in the midlist of transfer window rumors,

Diaz is one of the first names on Pioli’s team sheet every gameday. Diaz has five goals and four assists in 26 Serie A appearances.

The 23-year-old has played a significant role this season in the Milan team’s quest for an unlikely Champions League victory.

The Serie A champions want to keep the mesmerizing Spanish forward after his loan contract expires this summer.

However, Real Madrid is preferring to have him return to the Santiago Bernabeu after his great performances in Italy.

In the first leg of the Champions League semifinals, Diaz helped Milan defeat Napoli 1-0 by assisting Ismael Bennacer’s goal.

Pioli waxed lyrical about the Spaniard’s ability in his pre-match press conference ahead of the tie-decider in Naples, insisting he wants to keep him at the San Siro.

“I think everyone can see how much he’s growing,” Pioli said (via Calciomercato). “He’s a young boy, but he packs a punch.”

“He’s a player who thrives under pressure and knows how to handle it.” He’s progressing quickly and is on his way to becoming a top-level footballer. Of course, I’d like to re-train him.”

Madrid have already signed a new contract with Marco Asensio, but Diaz hopes to provide competition for his compatriot on the right flank next season.

Los Blancos have already begun contract negotiations with the player’s representatives, putting Milan’s chances of keeping him permanently in doubt.

Diaz has spent the last three seasons on loan at Inter, where he has contributed 17 goals and 11 assists in 114 appearances.

However, his contract with the Scudetto champions expires this summer, making a return to Madrid more likely.
