Sven Ulreich is recommending himself for the role even as the bosses hunt on the transfer market for a replacement.

Sven Ulreich will start in goal for Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer, the goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, may be able to return sooner than planned. Bayern Munich’s and Germany’s national team goalkeeper got injury in December of last year. Neuer injured his leg while snowboarding on vacation. Neuer’s leg had a screw implanted after the damage surgically removed at the end of May. According to TZ journalists Manuel Boncke and Philipp Kessler, the 37-year-old’s recent minor surgery has hastened his rehabilitation and improved his mobility. As a result, the team elected to open the season with Ulreich in goal, relying on Neuer’s quick recovery.

Even if Bayern Munich signed England captain Harry Kane for the Bundesliga’s record fee, there is still a significant gap in the roster.

Kane has taken over the No. 9 jersey that had previously been worn by Robert Lewandowski. That comes with the expectation of scoring a slew of goals. The transfer cost, which is likely to exceed 100 million euros ($110 million), adds to the pressure.

“I am aware of that obligation. “Whenever a club spends a large sum of money on you, you feel obligated to repay that,” Kane remarked during his presentation on Sunday.

Kane’s time at Bayern began with a shock the day before, when the squad was defeated 3-0 by RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup – a primarily ceremonial match between league and cup champions. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel chastised his players, including Kane, for acting “as if we’d done nothing” during the four weeks of pre-season.

Harry Kane joins Bayern Munich

Kane fills the void left by Lewandowski at Bayern, but the club is still looking for a goalkeeper because Manuel Neuer is expected to miss the first half of the season. He injured his leg while skiing in December and had more surgery this month. Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen confirmed on Sunday that the club attempted and failed to sign Chelsea midfielder Kepa Arrizabalaga. On Monday, Real Madrid signed the Spanish goalkeeper, allowing Bayern to continue its search.

Neuer, 37, hasn’t played since the World Cup last year. For the loss to Leipzig, Bayern used reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich.

The question is whether any new goalkeeper will be a stopgap like Yann Sommer, who was signed in January but has since been transferred to Inter Milan, or a more permanent replacement. Signing someone like David de Gea, a free agent after leaving Manchester United, may mean permanently relegating Neuer to the bench.

Tuchel also stated that the team requires a defensive midfielder. This could lead to even more transfer activity at Bayern before the market closes on September 1.
