Villa nearing to sign Marcos Acuna from Sevilla

Rumor has it that Aston Villa anticipates signing left-back Marcos Acuna from Sevilla before the end of Thursday.

The majority of the summer transfer season saw rumors about the Argentina international moving to the Premier League. Aston Villa now seem to have secured his signing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, new negotiations to determine the defender’s transfer cost will start today between the club and Sevilla.

To continue his summer of substantial investment in his club, Unai Emery is currently working on personal details with Acuna.

The Spaniard has already signed Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres, and Moussa Diaby, and is searching for further defensive reinforcements after Tyrone Mings sustained a catastrophic knee injury in Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Acuna played the entire 90 minutes as Sevilla fell to Manchester City on penalties in the Uefa Super Cup on Wednesday.

The left-back assisted Youssef En-Nesyri’s first goal in Athens, which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

The former Sporting player had an outstanding 2022-23 season, winning the World Cup with Argentina and the Europa League with Sevilla.

He will now work on Emery’s expanding Villa Park project.

Emery will be looking to bolster his squad after a humiliating 5-1 loss to Newcastle on the opening day.

Nicolo Zaniolo is likely to have a medical at Aston Villa on Wednesday before signing a loan deal from Galatasaray.

The Italian forward is regarded highly by Villa sporting director Monchi. Monchi worked with Acuna at Roma from 2017 to 2019, and can play a variety of offensive situations.

Aston Villa wants to close the deal to sign Marcos Acuna, an a left-hand defender for Sevilla, “today amid fresh talks”; “personal terms are currently under agreement” with the World Cup champion.
