The 39-year-old made the high-profile move from French giants Paris Saint-Germain to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020, ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Silva had intended to stay at Chelsea for only one year, but he has since spent four years in West London.

The centre-back was successful in his debut season at the club, winning the Champions League with the Blues under Thomas Tuchel’s great guidance.

Silva has appeared in 152 matches across all competitions since joining Chelsea from PSG in 2020. He has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

“Following four seasons with Chelsea, Thiago Silva will depart after our final game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and re-join Brazilian club Fluminense,” according to a statement posted on Chelsea’s official website.

“Chelsea has agreed with Thiago that he can begin training with his new teammates as soon as he signs a two-year contract with the Brazilian club.

“Thiago will be able to train with Fluminense before his registration transfers on July 1.

“The 39-year-old will leave Stamford Bridge having made over 150 appearances for the Blues and won the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.”

“He has also forged a lasting bond with Blues supporters.” “Hewas named the club’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022–23 campaign.”

Chelsea to look forward the replacement

With Silva’s exit secured for the end of the season, Chelsea will now look to the future for centre-back options.

The 39-year-old Brazil international has remained Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice player, so his departure might be significant.

Chelsea’s defence features a number of younger players, notably Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile, all of whom have recently started matches.

Silva was included in the squad in the Blues’ 5-0 triumph over West Ham United last weekend. On Saturday, he expects to start against Nottingham Forest as well.
