Thomas Müller has made history by becoming the club’s second player to reach 700 appearances in all competitions.

Thomas Müller reached a new milestone with Bayern Munich

The German icon accomplished the feat in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against FC Heidenheim. However, the Bavarians were crushed as the host club rallied to win 3-2 after going behind two goals.

With only Sepp Maier surpassing him with 709 appearances, Thomas Muller became the first Bayern Munich outfield player to reach 700 appearances. Bayern Munich was unable to do anything to honor one of their greatest players of all time.

Thomas Muller is one of the greatest players of the contemporary period, having won everything at both the domestic and international levels, with the exception of the Euro. The 34-year-old has spent his whole club career with Bayern Munich, and the German icon has never been trophyless since 2012, but his run may come to an end this season, with the UEFA Champions League standing as the Bavarians’ lone hope for silverware this season.

In 700 appearances with the club, the attacking midfielder has 239 goals. He made 217 assists in all competitions, placing him among the league’s leading assist providers.

Here’s a list of the silverware Thomas Muller has earned over his career:

  • 6 DFB Pokal
  • 2 UEFA Champions League
  • 12 Bundesliga
  • 3 Audi Cup
  • 2 UEFA Super Cup
  • 8 German Super Cup
  • 2 FIFA Club World Cup
  • 1 FIFA World Cup (with Germany in 2014)

Thomas Müller surpasses 700 appearance milestone for the Bundesliga Giants

From joining the Bavarian giants as a 10-year-old to making his professional debut under Jürgen Klinsmann against Hamburg in 2008, the youngster known as the Raumdeuter, or space invader, has had a glittering career. Müller is currently only nine games behind Sepp Maier, Bayern’s all-time record holder, after reaching 700 games for his lifetime team.

Depending on how Bayern performs in Europe this season, the attacker could beat the club’s former goalie to become the Bavarian giants’ all-time appearance leader before the end of the current season. However, Müller will be content to celebrate match number 700 for the time being. Müller will have enough time to reflect on Maier’s fantastic mark after signing a one-year contract extension with Bayern in December, extending his affiliation with the club for 25 years.

The Weilheim, Oberbayern-born player has won 32 trophies with Bayern, including a Bundesliga record 12 titles. He also holds the record for most wins at his club. Bayern president Herbert Hainer famously observed of Müller, “His career is littered with records in the history books.” Bayern has been formed by many people, and there will never be another player like Thomas Müller.
