Thomas Tuchel | Bayern Munich has confirmed the manager would be leaving the club at the conclusion of the season.

Thomas Tuchel will leave FC Bayern Munich

Tuchel’s contract in Bavaria is supposed to expire on June 30, 2025, but the couple will split a year earlier, on June 30, 2024. This follows pleasant discussions between Thomas Tuchel and Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen about the club’s strategy.

In an official statement released by the club, Dreesen clarified: “In an open, good conversation, we decided to amicably cease our relationship in the summer. Our goal is to reorganize the sports program with a new coach for the 2024-25 season. Until then, every member of the team is expressly challenged to achieve the best results possible in the Champions League and Bundesliga.”

“I also directly hold the team accountable. Especially in the Champions League, we are confident that after a 0-1 loss in the first leg against Lazio Rome, we will proceed to the quarter-finals in the second leg in our fully occupied Allianz Arena with our fans behind us.”

Recent results have put Der Rekordmeister in a precarious situation, as for the sixth time this century, the record champions face the prospect of not winning the trophy in May. While Tuchel may face the penalties now, there will undoubtedly be decisions made about the playing staff in the summer as Bayern look to rebuild their roster.

Despite this, Tuchel has stated that he and his team would continue fighting: “We have agreed that our relationship will cease after this season. Until then, I and my coaching team will, of course, do everything possible to assure maximum success.”

As previously reported, Bayern’s top aim is Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso, although others, including Hansi Flick and Zinedine Zidane, have also been named as potential replacements to Tuchel. Regardless, Bayern is expected to use the time between now and the summer to thoroughly prepare for next season and regain control of Germany once more.

Tuchel’s future prospects are unclear. However, the soon-to-be vacant position of Germany’s head coach may appeal to the 50-year-old.
