Luka Modric in being offered Coaching Staff Job by Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid.

Luka Modric 'given chance' to become Real Madrid's coach

Ancelotti made an offer to Luka Modric to join his backroom team about two months ago. Although the Croatia international was pleased for the opportunity, he originally declined.

Sources with knowledge of the matter, commenting on the condition of anonymity to safeguard relationships, claim it wasn’t a “definitive no,” implying Modric would still evaluate the proposition. At the same time, they understand that the midfielder is still eager to compete and that his primary goal is to continue playing.

Modrid is out of contract this summer and has made 20 La Liga appearances in 2023-24.

As has been the case since the beginning of the season, renewal is the least likely possibility, while no final decision has been made at this time.

The Athletic claimed this month that Modric has yet to make a decision on his future, with sources close to the player claiming he is not in a hurry to do so. His objective is to finish the season strong and then have a victorious European Championship with Croatia.

Ancelotti was asked about Modric’s future prior to Real’s victory over Getafe at the beginning of February.

He stated, “As I have previously stated, Luka is a football great, particularly at Real Madrid. He must make judgments for next season.”

The offer to Modric is unrelated to the fortunes of assistant coaches Davide Ancelotti and Francesco Mauri, who declined a hefty offer from Saudi Arabia in January. Both have stated their commitment to stay and remain completely committed to the current coaching setup.

Modric signed a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid last June. He drew interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, but chose to stay in Spain.

Modric joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, having previously played for Tottenham Hotspur.

During his career, he has won an incredible 23 trophies, including five Champions League crowns, three La Liga titles, and five Club World Cups.

In addition to team accomplishments, the midfielder has won multiple individual awards since his debut in Spain, most notably the Ballon d’Or in 2018.
