Toni Kroos has been included to Germany’s 26-man squad for the month-long international break, according to head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

The 34-year-old-midfielder retired from international football after Germany was eliminated by England in the quarterfinals of Euro 2020.

Kroos, on the other hand, indicated at the end of last month that he is “in the mood” to return from retirement and represent Euro 2024 host Germany this summer.

The 2014 World Cup winner, who has 106 international caps, has been formally named to Nagelsmann’s latest team ahead of friendlies against France on March 23 and the Netherlands at home on March 26.

Pavlovic was born in Munich and is of Serbian descent; nevertheless, despite the Serbian FA sending a delegation to see the midfielder and his family earlier this month, the 21-year-old has chosen to represent Germany.

Another notable addition to Nagelsmann’s roster is Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was dropped from the previous Germany squad at the conclusion of last year to concentrate on club commitments.

The 37-year-old is anticipated to reclaim the number one shirt from Marc-Andre ter Stegen, although Bernd Leno and uncapped Oliver Baumann are two additional goalkeepers at Nagelsmann’s disposal.

Chris Fuhrich and Robin Koch have returned to the senior squad, with the latter receiving his first call-up in nearly three years.

Ilkay Gundogan of Barcelona will continue as Germany’s captain, and he is one of just three midfielders called up, along with Kroos and Jamal Musiala, who have at least 25 senior caps.

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz is one of Nagelsmann’s five offensive possibilities, despite being tested in a hybrid left-back role last year. The roster also includes Thomas Muller and Niclas Fullkrug.

Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Timo Werner, Leon Goretzka, Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule, and Nico Schlotterbeck are among the notable players who were left out of Nagelsmann’s most recent squad.

Germany will meet France at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon a week next Saturday, before returning home to face the Netherlands three days later at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt.
