Tottenham Hotspur have signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig for the rest of the season.
Tottenham has the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season under the terms of the agreement.
The 27-year-old arrives in North London after falling down the pecking order at Leipzig this season, making only eight Bundesliga appearances, only two of which were starts.
In 2023-24, the forward has two goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.
Tottenham Hotspur signed Werner on Loan
Werner will now spend the rest of the season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he will wear the number 16 shirt and attempt to help Ange Postecoglou’s side finish in the top four of the Premier League.
From 2020 to 2022, the Germany international played for Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea.
Werner scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for Chelsea. He also contributed the Blues to win the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.
He also won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup with Leipzig last season. Werner appeared in 213 games and scored 113 goals for RB Leipzig.
Werner has 24 goals in 57 international games for Germany, helping his country win the Confederations Cup in 2017.
Manchester United was also said to be interested in Werner earlier this month. However, Spurs have now won the race to sign him, making him their first signing of the January window.
Despite interest from Bayern Munich and Napoli, Postecoglou’s men are thought to be close to signing Radu Dragusin.
Tottenham is currently fifth in the Premier League table, one point out of the Champions League places and six points behind leaders Liverpool.
Werner could make his new team’s debut against Manchester United on Sunday.
