The Athletic reported that better terms had been reached, and Real has now confirmed his extension.

The 23-year-old winger joined Real from Flamengo in 2018 and has since established himself as one of the club’s key players.

Last year, the Brazilian international, who was given Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary No 7 shirt in the summer, had his best season to date, scoring 23 goals and providing 21 assists in 55 games for the Spanish side.

He has continued his strong play this season, with three goals and three assists in ten games.

“Hello Madridistas,” Vinicius Jr said in a Real Madrid video. The ability to pursue my contract is like a dream come true for me. I hope to stay here for many years and score many goals and win many titles. Thank you so much for all of your support for Hala Madrid and me!”

Real Madrid are expected to confirm contract extensions until 2028 for Eder Militao and Rodrygo, as well as Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde, according to The Athletic.

Vini Jr. is a football — and strategy — pillar for the current Real Madrid team.

His signing is the best example of a successful model of an increasingly important aspect of the club’s transfer policy: Florentino Perez believes that due to competition from state-backed clubs and the Premier League, it is necessary to try to sign players (think Fede Valverde, Rodrygo, Martin Odegaard, Eduardo Camavinga, Endrick) before their price makes the task difficult or impossible.

Before moving to Madrid in 2018, Vinicius Jr.’s contract with Flamengo ended in 2017. Real Madrid, and especially its president, have always had great expectations for him.

Even the club’s difficult first few years did not change its outlook. Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival was crucial: in one of their first meetings after returning to Real Madrid, the Italian expressed his confidence in Vini Jr.

The facts have proven him correct. The forward has rewarded the coach’s faith, particularly with the goal that sealed a 14th Champions League title.

Vinicius Jr’s contract was extended in early 2022 after Real Madrid. His agents agreed to hold the final part of the negotiations at the end of the season.

Real Madrid suggested extending the contract until 2028, but the player preferred 2026 or 2027. Finally, the year was 2027. His release clause has risen from €350 million to €1 billion. Similarly, his salary has increased from €3.2 million net — up to €4 million with bonuses — to €10 million plus bonuses.
