Wataru Endo is having a physical with Liverpool ahead of a £16 million move to Anfield.

After losing out to Chelsea in their pursuits of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, the Reds began looking for alternatives and agreed to terms with Stuttgart on Wednesday to sign 30-year-old Japan international Endo.

Sources have revealed to 90min that Stuttgart has granted Endo permission to have a physical with Liverpool on Thursday, bringing the transfer one step closer to completion.

Endo, who is highly desirable by Liverpool’s new sporting director, Jorg Schmadke. He had publicly expressed his desire to play in England and readily accepted Liverpool’s offer.

Liverpool is still looking for a second midfielder to complement Endo and has a huge list of prospective possibilities. The Reds are also eyeing Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. However, he have yet to make a proposal for the Moroccan international, who has agreed to join Manchester United but is growing dissatisfied with the Red Devils’ delay.

Liverpool wants to be keep the updates about any changes. Long-term target Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich, as well as Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, are also on Liverpool’s radar.

Liverpool recently signed Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s transfer to Saudi Arabia, though, has forced them into a second stage of a midfield makeover.
