Yussuf Poulsen pens new contract with RB Leipzig

Denmark striker Yussuf Poulsen extended his contract with RB Leipzig by two years until 2026 on the eve of the German club’s Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade.

Poulsen joined Leipzig as a 19-year-old in 2013 when the club was still in Germany’s third division.

The Danishman, now 29, was a member of the teams that were promoted to the second division in 2014 and the Bundesliga in 2016. He has 370 appearances for the team, scoring 85 goals.

Poulsen stated in a statement that he and the Saxon club had “grown up together.”

“When I came to Leipzig in 2013, I was still a young lad.”

“For me, it was a new country, a new language, and a new team.” What has happened since has been somewhat bizarre.

“We’ve had two promotions, played in the Champions League and, to top it all off, we’ve won two German Cup titles in recent years.”

Poulsen’s time at Leipzig, according to manager Marco Rose, was “an unbelievable story.”

“Yussi is a representative of the club.” “He completely understands the team and the city of Leipzig,” he said at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s match against Red Star Belgrade.

“He’s come a long way since he arrived… We’re glad he’ll be staying a little longer.”

Poulsen, who was born in Copenhagen, has played 72 games for Denmark, scoring 11 goals. With the Danes on track to qualify for Euro 2024, he will hope to represent his country in Germany next year.
