Barca seeks Pep Guardiola as their guardian angel in order to improve their results.

Barca and the Culés' Next Coach

Pep Guardiola will always be connected with Barca. However, Joan Laporta does not see him returning to Camp Nou in 2024 as Xavi’s successor.

The Blaugrana will look for a new head coach this summer. That is because club great Xavi, who supervised a La Liga title victory last season, has indicated that he will stand down after failing to deliver consistent performances and results in 2023-24.

Several candidates have been proposed to occupy the prominent position, including Jose Mourinho and Hansi Flick, but Guardiola would be a popular pick among a demanding audience. He is, however, under contract with Premier League heavyweights Manchester City until 2025, and when asked if the Catalan native may return to his spiritual home, Laporta said: “He has a contract with Manchester City, and he honours it. I speak with him frequently, and I know what the club thinks of him.”

Barca to bring Guardiola back to the Club?

Barcelona will not rush their next appointment, with Xavi expected to finish the season even if major trophy remains elusive. Laporta continued, “I want Xavi to play until the end of the season. It is entirely up to him if he proceeds to the conclusion. I am not going to fire him, no matter what. He does not deserve it. He merits our faith. We are not giving up in the league; in the Champions League, we face Napoli, but Xavi is highly driven. I have no qualms about Xavi or the motivation and dedication of the squad. “Xavi is honest, and if the formula does not work, he will say so.”

Barcelona is currently fourth in La Liga, 10 points behind Clasico rivals Real Madrid, and has three domestic games to play, beginning with a trip to Alaves on Saturday, before facing Serie A giants Napoli in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match on February 21.
