Salernitana have officially announced the signing of former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, who has joined on a free transfer.
Previously, off-field legal difficulties affected the 35-year-old German center back’s career; he was single at the end of the previous season.
Before fans voiced their concerns, he trained for six months and was briefly linked to a return to Bayern Munich.
Salernitana has shown to be a safe refuge for aging stars in previous years, having welcomed Franck Ribery in 2021, Antonio Candreva in 2022, and Guillermo Ochoa last year. They presently need all the aid they can get in Serie A, as they are at the bottom of the standings with only 12 points after 22 games.
Boateng has officially signed a six-month contract with Salernitana, committing to the club for the remainder of the season. He’ll wear the number five shirt on the Campania coast and will soon begin integrating into coach Filippo Inzaghi’s side.
