Instead, Atletico de Madrid is looking for a similar loan deal and their top target is Barcelona’s Memphis Depay. Under head coach Xavi Hernandez, the Dutchman is out of favor, and Indios could give him more playing time for the rest of the season.

Depay’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the season, and he is likely to leave as a free agent in the summer. He could leave earlier, though the club is keen to keep him until the end of his current contract unless they receive a transfer fee.

This could complicate any potential loan deal for Atletico, who may have to pay to keep Depay until the end of the season.
