Barcelona 'hopeful to sign Joshua Kimmich'

In recent weeks, it has been claimed that Der Rekordmeister is open to listen to bids for Kimmich this summer. This season, the 29-year-old has failed to impress, with brilliant youth Aleksandar Pavlović shining from midfield despite his young age.

This has led to Kimmich being moved out to right-back by Thomas Tuchel in the absence of January acquisition Sacha Boey. While this shift has significantly improved Kimmich’s on-field performance, the German international does not see himself playing in a back four in the future.

As a result, Kimmich is thinking about leaving Bavaria and moving to Spain or England. Liverpool thought to be the front-runner for his signature, with the Premier League title contenders expressing strong interest, but Barcelona is now looking to do all it takes to sign the 29-year-old.

Kimmich’s contract at the Allianz Arena is set to end in 2025, and new contract negotiations between the player and the club were expected to begin soon. However, Bayern have yet to engage Kimmich, making a move away at the conclusion of the season a serious possibility.

Regardless, while Barcelona hopes to entice Kimmich to Catalonia, there are questions over whether they can afford to do so. Although Ronald Araújo is still a priority for Der Rekordmeister this summer, the Spanish giants may offer the Uruguayan defender as part of a swap deal if they perceive Kimmich as a crucial addition for next season.
