Following a six-month trial, the 29-year-old was found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault against five women, but the jury was unable to reach verdicts on one count of rape and one count of attempted rape.

Mendy was cleared of those charges by a new jury following a retrial at Chester Crown Court in July, and the Frenchman was allowed to resume his football career.

Mendy was suspended by Man City in 2021 after being charged with rape and sexual assault, and the defender was then officially released by the club at the end of June when his contract expired.

Nick De Marco KC has since confirmed to Sky Sports News that Mendy has filed an Employment Tribunal claim against Manchester City for unpaid wages.

The Frenchman, who now plays for Ligue 1 club Lorient, has been seeking the return of pay owed to him until the end of his contract with the Citizens, which expired on June 30, 2023.

“Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados, Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages,” according to a press release.

“From September 2021, after Mr Mendy was charged with various offenses, all of which he was later acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023, Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all.” The case will be heard by an Employment Tribunal.”

Mendy joined Man City from Monaco in the summer of 2017 for a reported £52 million, becoming the Premier League’s most expensive defender.

During his six-year stay at the Etihad Stadium, the left-back was thought to earn around £100,000 per week.
