Bournemouth vs Luton Town | Premier League

Both teams were led off the field as the game was called off after Tom Lockyer collapsed in the middle of the field after suffering a cardiac arrest, with the announcement that the game had been called off coming soon after.

The incident occurred just six months after the Luton captain collapsed during the club’s playoff final victory over Coventry City, necessitating surgery to correct a heart condition.

When the incident occurred, the score had been tied at 1-1 after Dominic Solanke had cancelled out Elijah Adebayo’s opener.

The club’s most recent statement, issued on Sunday, stated that Lockyer was still in the hospital, undergoing tests and scans. However, that they would not provide a “running commentary” on the situation.

Premier League also confirmed in a statement that the game will be replayed in its entirety later this season.

“Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided that last Saturday’s AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full,” according to the statement.

“The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be determined after consultation with all parties involved.”

“The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively by match officials, players, and managers from both clubs, as well as the Premier League.”

“The League would like to thank the medical staff.”
“The League wishes to thank everyone involved for their prompt response to what was an extremely distressing situation for everyone.”

Tom, his family, and the entire Luton Town FC team have our best wishes for a quick recovery.”

Bournemouth vs. Luton | Match to be replayed in its entirety following Tom Lockyer’s collapse

An early decision would likely settle on a staggered gameweek in mid-January, though other suggestions for when the rearranged game could take place have already surfaced.

Due to Premier League clubs’ FA Cup matches the following month, schedule conflicts may occur. Replays are another possibility. There is a midweek Premier League gameweek at the end of January.

The game will have to be replayed in conjunction with the final 16 first-leg Champions League matches until April. Adding to this, neither the club is participating in continental competition.

With five points behind NottmForest and still facing relegation, Luton Town will play Newcastle in their final game before Christmas.

Bournemouth lead Nottingham Forest by ten points despite having played one fewer game.
