Domino vs. Chelsea: The Count Continues

Domino’s Pizza has continued to taunt Chelsea as the Blues struggle for firepower up front at the outset of Mauricio Pochettino’s term as manager.

The Blues have scored five goals in the Premier League so far, three of which came in a 3-0 win against Luton Town, but they are on a three-game losing streak ahead of a west London derby against Fulham on Monday night.

Following the most recent of those defeats, at home to Aston Villa, Domino’s announced on X that they had delivered ‘approximately 852,609 pizzas’ since the Blues’ last league goal.

However, ahead of a crucial match against Fulham, the American fast food business has taken their ribbing to a new level, putting a computerized live tracker outside the Fulham ground, counting how many deliveries have been made.

The original estimate, released a week earlier, appears to be modest in compared to the live tracker, which indicates as many as 9,892,022 packages had been delivered as of Monday morning.

On Monday, Domino’s took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say, ‘We done the calculations and turns out it’s worse than we imagined.’ Then there’s an image of the counter with the updated figure on it.

Fans in attendance will be able to see the current count before kick-off on Monday evening, with the number potentially carrying over to the following weekend if the Cottagers stay solid at the back.

Outside of the Premier League, the Blues have fared slightly better, with a 1-0 win over Brighton last Wednesday and a 2-1 Carabao Cup success over Wimbledon in August.

‘We need to grow up as a team, not only as individuals,’ Pochettino remarked after Tottenham’s bruising defeat to Aston Villa last weekend. ‘I believe that players like Nico (Jackson), who are so young and new to the Premier League, require time.

‘In this type of game, we compete and want to win, and football is all about winning. However, players must learn, experience, and make mistakes when they are young.

‘That’s why we’re disappointed; there are far too many instances like this.’

To make matters worse, the Blues will be without scorer Nicolas Jackson on Monday evening due to a one-match suspension for too many cautions.

The Senegalese forward came this summer for £32 million from Villarreal, but has only scored once in six league outings.
