Eric Dier | According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Bayern Munich want to make the English defender’s loan move permanent.

Eric Dier ready for permanent transfer to FC Bayern Munich

Dier will sign a one-year contract with the club until 2025. Certain obligations specified in the original loan arrangement that would trigger the permanent migration have now been met. This concludes a 10-year connection with Tottenham Hotspur, during which he reached the Champions League final in 2019.

Dier has appeared six times for Bayern since coming from Spurs in the offseason, as the club faces a defensive crisis owing to injuries and suspended players.

The 30-year-old has been competing with Kim Min-Jae, Dayot Upamecano, and Matthijs de Ligt for a starting position.

Bayern presently sit second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. This season, the club’s 11-year title reign is likely to come to an end.

Eric Dier to join the Bavarians permanently

Eric Dier has fulfilled the contractual conditions required to convert his loan move to Bayern Munich into a permanent transfer this summer.

The original contract, signed with Tottenham Hotspur in January, was set to last until the end of the season, with an option for another 12 months.

As a result of the use of that option, the defense remains shut down until June 2025.

After paying Spurs a reported €4 million loan fee, Bayern will effectively register the 30-year-old as a free agent when his Spurs contract expires.

Dier’s performance and leadership talents have satisfied the 33-time German champions in six games, four of which he has started.

The most recent of these saw him guide Bayern to a crucial 2-1 home victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Dier’s contract in north London was set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, and he was free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs before joining Bayern.

This season, he has only made four appearances in all competitions for Tottenham, limiting him to a bit part role.

Radu Dragusin’s arrival in the winter pushed him down the pecking order, with full-backs Ben Davies and Emerson Royal taking over when first-choice pair Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were absent.

Bayern, now second in the Bundesliga, will face SC Freiburg on Friday.
