Evan Ferguson has signed a new contract with Brighton and Hove Albion. The contract will keep him at the club until 2028.

Manchester United were reportedly first in line to sign the 18-year-old this summer. But Brighton deterred interest by offering Ferguson a lucrative new contract. He previously agreed to professional terms that ran until 2026 in October of last year.

“Evan’s contract extension is fantastic news,” said head coach Roberto De Zerbi. He trains and plays like a senior player with years of experience. He has established himself as an important member of the squad.

“The goal is to help him become one of Europe’s best strikers.”
Brighton has the right environment for young players, and he is only 18 years old.

“He’s doing a fantastic job. Man United was bad for us without him [in last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final defeat at Wembley], because he has different qualities and can give us different solutions in the last 20 metres.”

Ferguson is likely to return from an ankle injury soon, but his eight goals and three assists in 19 first-team appearances, as well as a respectable competitive debut for Ireland against France last month, appear to have piqued the interest of Bayern Munich and Napoli.

Evan Ferguson prolonged his stay at Brighton & Hove Albion

The teenager joined Brighton from Bohemians in 2021, where he made his debut at the age of 14 against Chelsea, and former manager Graham Potter made him the club’s youngest ever Premier League player in February 2022.

Andrew Moran, Ireland’s under-21 midfielder, has also agreed to terms with the Seagulls until June 2027. In 17 Premier League 2 appearances since joining from Bray Wanderers in 2020, the 19-year-old has seven goals and six assists.

“Andrew has progressed really well through the academy and has impressed Roberto as part of our first-team squad this season,” said David Weir, Brighton’s technical director. “He worked extremely hard to earn this new contract, and his next challenge is to break into the team.”
