Guardiola revealed an update about Manchester City star, Erling Haaland’s injury.
Erling Haaland will miss Manchester City’s final game of 2023 against Sheffield United, according to Pep Guardiola.
The Norwegian international has been out since playing the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa earlier this month.
Haaland, who is recovering from a foot injury, has missed Man City’s last six games, including two at the Club World Cup.
Despite traveling with the team to the tournament, the striker was forced to train alone in Saudi Arabia.
In his absence, Man City defeated Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan and Fluminense of Brazil to win the Club World Cup for the first time.
Haaland was also unable to join Man City’s squad for Wednesday’s 3-1 Premier League victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Pep Guardiola saw his team come from behind to win all three points, thanks to goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva.
Guardiola is hoping Haaland’s return on January
Guardiola gave an update on when he expects Haaland to return from his injury layoff following the away win.
“Still, he’s not with the team,” Man City manager Pep Guardiola told Amazon Prime. “He feels better with his bone, but he hasn’t joined us for a single training session.”
“Unfortunately, December is extremely crowded with so many teams.” January is extremely congested. Hopefully, he’ll be able to rejoin us in January.”
Guardiola’s comments confirm Haaland’s absence from Saturday’s home game against relegation-threatened Sheffield United.
With Haaland ruled out of the final game of the season, it’s unclear whether he’ll be ready for Man City’s first game of 2024.
The Citizens will kick off the new year with an FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town on January 7, followed by a trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in their first Premier League game of 2019.
Despite missing the last three Premier League games, Haaland remains the league’s top scorer, with 14 goals in 15 appearances this season.
