Javi Galan joined Real Sociedad until the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid has loaned left-back Javi Galan to Real Sociedad for the remainder of the season, just six months after signing from Celta Vigo. Galan fell out of favor with Diego Simeone and will look to regain his sharpness in Donostia-San Sebastian.
Galan, who cost €5 million to sign from Celta Vigo, has made only one start this season and has played 243 minutes. Until now, Diego Simeone has preferred to play Samuel Lino and Rodrigo Riquelme on the left side.
La Real has signed him on loan until the end of the season with the option to buy, despite interest from Villarreal and Real Betis. Galan was set to join the Yellow Submarine until Aihen Munoz ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on Saturday, at which point Real Sociedad acted quickly. Galan instructed his agents to focus on a deal with Real Sociedad at that time.
As things stand, Atletico Madrid intends to re-sign Galan at the end of the season, though he may leave before then.
The 29-year-old could even make his Txuri-Urdin debut this weekend after his main competition, Kieran Tierney, was injured in the Copa del Rey match against Celta Vigo on Tuesday night.
It is unclear how long Tierney will be out, but Imanol Alguacil reported another muscle tear. With a Spanish Cup semi-final and a Champions League Round of 16 match against Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon, Galan appears to be a solid signing.
Last season, he was regarded as one of the best in the league at his position, and his style of bombing forward behind a wide man should also suit La Real.
