Lewis Hall joins Newcastle United from Chelsea

Newcastle United have completed the acquisition of Chelsea teenager Lewis Hall. The 18-year-old joins the Magpies on a season-long loan, with the option to make the move permanent next summer “based on performance-related criteria” for a fee that may reach £35 million. Hall, who will wear the No.20 shirt, is Eddie Howe’s sixth summer acquisition, following Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Valentino Livramento, and Yankuba Minteh.

Hall appeared to be close to signing a new long-term contract with Chelsea before completing a loan move to Crystal Palace earlier this summer, but the youngster has instead chosen to complete a dream move to boyhood club Newcastle.

Hall’s statement after joining Newcastle United

“I’m very proud,” Hall told Newcastle’s official website upon his arrival at the club.
“My family and I are Newcastle fans.”

My brother and I learned from a young age that we are from Newcastle.

It’s a massive club, and I can’t wait to get going.

“Last year, I gained a lot of experience in some big games, and I was really proud of how I progressed as a player and as a person.” I’m happy and really proud to be here at Newcastle, the team I’ve loved since I was a youngster.

“It’s a lot of fun. When you look back on last season and how the team performed – not just the results, but the performances the team put in – it was incredible.

“There are so many talented players, and we now have the Champions League, so there are so many different competitions that I know the team will want to do well in and hopefully win a trophy or two.”

“I’m delighted to welcome Lewis to Newcastle United,” Howe continued. He’s a player we’ve been following closely, as have a number of other clubs, so it’s great to have him and add a player of his caliber, versatility, and promise to our group.

“I’d like to thank everyone who worked so hard to bring in the players we have.”

“A transfer window takes a lot of time, effort, and resources, but we have a real togetherness at all levels here, and I appreciate that teamwork and support.”

Lewis Hall: Career Stats

Hall began his career at Chelsea’s academy, enrolling at the age of eight in 2012, and progressed through the club’s junior system before making his senior debut in January 2022 under previous manager Thomas Tuchel.

Last season, the England Under-21 international was crowned Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year after making 11 first-team appearances, including eight Premier League starts.

Hall spent most of his time at Chelsea as a left-back or left wing-back, but he can also play further forward on the left wing, and he is likely to compete with Dan Burn and Matt Targett for a spot in Howe’s starting lineup.

Hall might make his Newcastle debut against Liverpool at St James’ Park on Sunday in the Premier League.
