Liverpool has offered Real Madrid €150 million (£128.6 million) for former Arsenal target Federico Valverde, according to Spanish media.

Liverpool want to sign Valverde from Real Madrid

During his time at Real Madrid, Valverde established himself as one of the world’s best midfielders.

Federico Valverde is a wanted man.

He contributed the sole goal of the game as Los Blancos defeated Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final.

Transfermarkt valued the Uruguayan international at €100 million. He joined the Spanish giants from Penarol for €5 million in July 2016.

The 25-year-old has played 246 games for Madrid, winning one Champions League, two La Liga crowns, one Copa del Rey, and two Club World Cups.

Despite his importance to the club, Valverde has regularly been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, most notably to Liverpool.

Chelsea and Manchester City have also expressed interest, while Valverde claimed in November that Arsenal wanted to sign him as a teenager, adding their pursuit made him feel “like a hostage”.

He told The Players’ Tribune: “Some people told me, ‘Who wouldn’t want to play for Arsenal? Do you wish to stay in Uruguay? That’s crazy!” They were really whispering under their breath, ‘We can all make a lot of money if you go’.

“In football, you learn that your life is not your own. At an early age, you feel more like a hostage. Even your family becomes a hostage. Football is an escape to a better life, particularly for us in South America, and the vultures are aware of this.

“They applied pressure on you in a ‘pleasant’ way. ‘Damn, Fede, if you go to Arsenal, you’ll get a lovely bed and a warm shower that lasts 30-40 minutes! “Who wouldn’t want that lifestyle?”

Liverpool ‘bid’ £129 million for Federico Valverde.

Liverpool is still in the running to recruit Valverde from Real Madrid, who have a £129 million bid on the table from the Reds, according to Spanish outlet El Debate.

Jurgen Klopp, who is departing in the summer, is thought to be a big fan of Valverde and has ‘wanted him since he became a starter for Madrid’.

Of course, he will not be in the dugout next season, but the Reds’ interest ‘has continued to this day’, with the Uruguayan described as a ‘dream’ signing and a ‘obvious object of want’.

Liverpool has been trying to sign Valverde for several years, but the player ‘has always wanted to continue at Real Madrid, and his long-term renewals speak it all’.

The Reds’ desperation to sign the former Penarol adolescent resulted in a €150 million ‘offer’ from ‘international middlemen’.
