Manuel Neuer will make his long-awaited return from injury against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga on Saturday, according to Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel.
After overcoming a broken leg suffered in December, Neuer is ready to reclaim his place as Bayern’s starting goalkeeper from Sven Ulreich.
“He’ll play if nothing happens in training.” He’s looking forward to it, we’re looking forward to it, and there are probably a few others who are as well. I can sense his excitement and class. Manuel Neuer to start on Goal for Bayern Against SV Darmstadt
Bayern Munich has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and it has finally arrived. According to Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, the legendary Manuel Neuer will finally (FINALLY!) return to the starting XI.
The 37-year-old has been awaiting his return since injuring his leg while skiing last year, and despite numerous setbacks, he will be in goal for Bayern’s Bundesliga match against SV Darmstadt.
While Neuer was not present on the field, many have blamed him for a number of off-field issues, including the club’s refusal to sign a young goalkeeper in favor of Neuer, and the latter’s comments on the dismissal of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovi.
Neuer will make his first appearance in 350 days (!). His most recent Bayern game was a 2-0 victory over Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga. Schalke are currently 16th in the 2. Bundesliga.
Despite his heroics in recent games, Sven Ulreich will be benched. It is unclear whether Daniel Peretz will be named to the squad. However, all Bayern fans must be looking forward to seeing the captain back in the club’s colors.
